Value of dwelling: Most cost-effective gasoline costs in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and different New Zealand cities

Those living in Auckland face a drive to Costco Westgate, which has 91 for $2.98. The next cheapest were NPD Otara and Wiri, Caltex Newton, and Pak’nSave supermarkets at Lincoln Rd and Manukau (all $3.06).

The cheapest spot within 10km of Wellington was Caltex Old Hutt Rd ($2.85 for 91).

In Christchurch, the cheapest fuel was at NPD and Gull on Stanmore Rd – both stocking 91 for $2.81.

Gaspy shows the cheapest prices within 10kmn of Hamilton city being at Pak’nSave Mill St and Gull Norton Rd – both selling 91 for $2.88.

Meanwhile, in Napier, fuel costs anywhere from $2.88 to $3.05.

Neighbour Hastings has the same price range.

The Government, meanwhile, has faced questions over whether it would extend its fuel excise tax cut beyond August.

Usually, the tax makes up about 48 percent of what Kiwis pay at the pump – with the largest chunk of that being excise.

But the Government slashed that by 25c in March and subsequently extended it to August.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Monday would not say if the tax cut would continue beyond then.

“I don’t want to give a prescriptive, ‘If X happens, if Y happens,” she told AM host Ryan Bridge.

“(There’s) a lot of volatility, a lot of movement that’s why, yes, we’ve done the 25c (petrol excise tax cut) but we’ve also done other things.”
