Free Tax Preparation: Appointments will be Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. until April 14 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 118 W. Third S. St., Summerville. AARP TaxAide will provide free electronic federal and state tax filing for low and middle income taxpayers by IRS and AARP qualified counselors. Counseling will be face to face with drop off and return the same day. Pre-appointment packages may be picked up on the west side of Bethany United Methodist Church during open hours or at the Senior Center on North Laurel Street. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is an IRS sponsored group that provides free federal and state income tax preparation and filing. Old Santee Canal State Park Easter Egg Hunt: 10 a.m., runs until the eggs run out, April 16. Old Santee Canal State Park, 900 Stony Landing Drive, Moncks Corner. The fee is $5 for ages 13 and under; adults are free. Cash only, please. Bring your kids out for an exciting Easter egg hunt while exploring the park at the same time. Children 6 and under will be searching for eggs next to the Learning Center. Children ages 7-13 will explore the trails and park to find hidden treasures throughout our beautiful swamp. Each child will have the opportunity to collect 10 eggs. Golden Eggs will be hidden around the park as well! The Easter Bunny will be available for photos and there will be a face painting station. Spring Concert Series: 6-9 p.m., April 22 and May 13 and 27. Crowfield Golf Club, 300 Hamlet Circle, Goose Creek. The annual Spring Concert Series returns in 2022. Cookin’ in the Creek: 11 a.m.-3 p.m., April 23. Goose Creek City Hall, 519 N. Goose Creek Blvd., Goose Creek. Food trucks from around the Lowcountry will be at the Municipal Center showcasing the best items on their menus. Along with their most popular menu items, each vendor will compete in our first ever wing contest. Attendees will be given two tickets to use to vote for their favorite wings. The vendor with the most tickets will win the People’s Choice Award. Admission and parking are free. Guided Bird Walk: 9-11 a.m., April 23. Old Santee Canal State Park, 900 Stony Landing Drive, Moncks Corner. Open to all ages, class size is limited to 20. The event is free with paid park admission. Join us as we take a walk around the swamp in search of our feathered spring migrants! All skill levels are welcomed! We will cover approximately 1 mile over well-graded gravel paths and boardwalk, with some minimal inclines and uneven surfaces. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Black Food Truck Festival: Noon to 6 p.m., April 23-24. Exchange Park Fairgrounds, 9850 Hwy. 78, Ladson. Tickets are $15-25. Tickets do not include food. Children ages 12 and under are free. This semi-annual event features some of the finest food trucks in the region along with music, vendors, kid-friendly activities and entertainment. The entertainment lineup for Saturday includes DJ Honcho, Psycodelics and La’Faye & The Fellas. Lowcountry Explorers Summer Camp: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., registration now open. June 13-July 25. Old Santee Canal State Park, Old Santee Canal Park, 900 Stony Landing Drive, Moncks Corner. We are happy to announce the return of in-person summer camp! For ages 6-8. Class size is limited to 12 campers each week. The cost per in-person camper is $200, the virtual camp is $50. A minimum $50 non-refundable deposit is required for each camper per week. These educational camps have a science or history theme and are jam-packed with activities and fun. This year’s festival will feature an expanded Plant Sale and an “Ask an Expert” panel discussion. Nursery representatives and master gardeners will be on hand to answer all your plant questions. The festival will also include food, music and information tables from several local and state organizations. Come support the park and learn about the diversity of native plants in South Carolina. For all ages, under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Spring is here! Our educator on staff will inform you all about the plants and animals you come across on this trip. You will explore the remnants of the first canal ever built in America and learn some park history. Canoes, lifejackets and paddles will be provided and a short instructional period for beginners will be done in the classroom.
