New York Governor Indicators Regulation Authorizing County of Albany to Impose Extra 911 Surcharge

The New York Governor June 30 signed an excise tax law authorizing the county of Albany to impose an additional surcharge to fund an enhanced 911 emergency telephone system. The law includes measures: 1] allowing the county to impose an additional surcharge not to exceed $0.95 per access line per month on the customers of every wireless service supplier to pay for costs associated with maintaining the 911 emergency telephone system; 2] exempting from the surcharge lifeline customers and any public safety agency or municipality that has enacted a local law for the surcharge; and 3] requiring any service supplier …
