At the company's office in Santiago, Chile's capital, Cuatrecasas has hired Roberto Guerrero to act as the co-ordinating partner for the office's corporate and business practice, joining Tomás Kubick, Macarena Ravinet, Alfonso Ugarte and Josefina Yávar, who have been named partners.
In the Colombian capital Bogotá, Manuel Quinche joins the team as the new managing partner and coordinator of the banking and finance practice, while Alessia Abello joins the team as a partner in the infrastructure practice and Juan Felipe Vera as a partner in the corporate and M&A practice.
In Mexico City, Javier Díaz de León joins the tax practice as a partner.
"With these appointments, the company strengthens its leadership position in Latin America with an outstanding presence in Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru and over 20 years of experience in the region," said a statement from the Madrid-based company.
"The firm has built part of its business strategy on its ability to provide its clients with comprehensive legal service and advice on the most complex matters affecting major Latin American markets," she added.
Roberto Guerrero has 30 years of corporate, M&A, and banking and finance law experience and has participated in many major transactions in the Chilean market with a focus on commercial, corporate and finance law.
He has represented national and international clients, including US, European and Asian multinational corporations, and has been involved in the design, negotiation and execution of complex businesses in many economic sectors, including trade, energy, finance, fisheries, food and beverage, industry, infrastructure , Mining, services and telecommunications. He focuses on effective advisory services and transactions that have earned him international recognition.
Roberto lectures at the law school of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and has been a member of the National Television Council since 2011. Between 2008 and 2010 he was a member of the Chilean Transparency Council.
Tomás Kubick has more than 10 years of experience in corporate and M&A matters, as well as a support role in competition, consumer rights protection and bankruptcy.
The new partner has advised clients on important M&A transactions as well as asset sales, joint ventures and all forms of association, shareholder agreements and complex legal structures. He is the legal advisor to several boards of directors in relation to their corporate governance and decision-making.
He teaches at the law school of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
Macarena Ravinet has extensive experience in M&A, project finance and financial transactions. Macarena specializes in retail and food, energy and infrastructure, and telecommunications, corporate and financial restructuring, corporate governance and private equity. She advises companies, foundations and non-profit organizations on corporate, financial and tax issues.
Macarena is President and Director of the Pro-Bono Chile Foundation and part of the International Pro Bono Network.
Josefina Yávar has extensive experience in general corporate law and specializes in transactional business, corporate governance, the formation and structuring of investment funds, and mergers and acquisitions at local and international level. She has developed a special practice for buying, selling and developing energy projects. She has also advised mutual funds, entrepreneurs and startups on venture capital and private equity issues.
Josefina also teaches at the law school of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
Alfonso Ugarte received all of his education from leading law firm Claro & Cia and has participated in some of the most famous transactions in the Chilean market. As an expert in M&A and advising foreign and domestic investors on public and private transactions in various industries, his M&A practice has mainly focused on infrastructure, banking, retail, mining and technology. He also advises creditors and debtors on structured financing transactions, the restructuring and reorganization of bankruptcies and non-performing financings.
Alfonso has been lecturing on corporate and commercial law at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile since 2014.
Manuel Quinche specializes in structured finance, project finance and M&A and has advised national and international borrowers, lenders and financial institutions on a variety of corporate and project finance transactions, including commercial bank finance, syndicated finance, multilateral finance, finance with export credit agencies, and finance through the Capital markets.
He is distinguished by his involvement in the most complex and highest value financing transactions carried out in Colombia as well as in the two largest M&A transactions in the history of Colombia.
Before joining Cuatrecasas, he worked for leading law firms in Colombia and the United States.
For her part, Alessia Abello is an expert in the structuring of infrastructure projects and public-private partnerships, project financing and the planning and structuring of construction contracts, particularly with regard to road infrastructure.
She has been involved in structuring private capital-tied projects in the hydrocarbon and electricity sectors, structuring contracts for the design and construction of refineries and power generation plants, and has advised financial institutions on the financing of infrastructure projects, has been involved in structuring securitisations to complete the work for the integrated transport system of Bogotá.
Juan Felipe Vera has extensive experience in corporate transactions and M&A and regularly advises private equity funds and strategic clients in various industries on M&A transactions, corporate restructurings, acquisition agreements, shareholder agreements, cooperation agreements and capital markets.
He advises on corporate acquisitions in a wide variety of sectors including banking, energy, health, infrastructure, manufacturing, consumer spending and public services.
The new addition to the Mexico City office, Javier Díaz de León, specializes in M&A, financial instruments, private equity, wealth planning and tax disputes arising from tax treaties. He also specializes in international taxes and has represented public and private investment funds, brokerage firms, SOFOMEs (a corporate form granted under Mexican law that provides credit and credit), manufacturing and distribution companies, and marine and aviation consortia for the energy industry and family offices for Property matters.
He has also advised on tax issues related to the creation of regulated and unregulated funds, financial products, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, co-investments, financing, real estate development structuring, energy and infrastructure projects, and international trusts for the management and transfer of assets.
Javier holds a Masters degree in International Tax Law from New York University and teaches Masters courses at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México.
He is a member of the International Fiscal Association and was chairman of the International Fiscal Commission of the Mexican Institute of Accountants.
