Rhode Island Legislature Enacts Property Tax Legislation Regarding City of Scituate’s Change of Fiscal Yr

The Rhode Island General Assembly June 30 enacted a law concerning a change in the Town of Scituate’s fiscal year. The law was enacted without executive approval. The law includes measures: 1] authorizing the town to levy a property tax for its extended fiscal year in excess 4 percent in excess of the amount the town levied and certified for the prior year; 2] allowing the levy to cover a period of 16 months; 3] defining “extended fiscal year” as the period of April 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024; and 4] allowing taxpayers to pay the levy in quarterly …
