West Hartford lowers tax price for autos; right here’s methods to pay your invoice – Hartford Courant

West Hartford — West Hartford real estate, business personal property and motor vehicle tax bills will be mailed to property owners on Tuesday, June 21, and the first installment is due July 1, Revenue Collection officials said.

However, the officials said, it is important for residents and businesses to note that this year there are two different tax rates: A rate of 32.46 mills was set for motor vehicles and the Town Council set the tax rate at 40.68 mills for real estate and business personal property, according to officials. The cap on the tax rate for vehicles is allowed by state law. The real estate and business personal property tax rate dropped to 40.68 mills from the previous level of 42.42.

Further, the council approved a two year phase-in for the Oct.1, 2021 real estate revaluation; the phase-in applies to properties that have increased in value, according to officials.

“For the first year of the phase-in, July 1, 2022 and January 1, 2023 tax bills, the tax bill is calculated by multiplying the mill rate by only a portion of the new assessment,” officials said in a statement. Here’s more on that phase-in.

“Real estate is billed in two installments. The first installment is due July 1, 2022 and covers the period of July 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022. The second installment is due January 1, 2023 and covers the period of January 1, 2023 through June 30, 2023.”

Officials noted that motor vehicle tax bills are for vehicles registered as of Oct. 1, 2021 and cover the time from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022.
